Ceramic Coatings VS WAX VS Sealants
Ceramic coatings are a permanet layer of protection against UV rays and debris. It will provide a high gloss and a harder structural surface compared to any wax or sealant on the market. Ceramic coatings can last many years providing the longest protection for your vehicle if properly maintained. They are SCRATCH RESISTANCE, they are not SCRATCH PROOF as some of the makers like to advertise them as. Unlike wax and sealants, no chemical can remove a ceramic coating. Only a series of polishing can remove the coated area. Recommended for newer vehicle models six to ten years old. This layer of protection that a ceramic coating offers will resist water spots, environmental pollutants, and bird etchings. This is the best layer of protection when it come to maintaining your vehicle. A ceramic coating is sleeker, less prone to wash induced swirls and micro-marring. Ceramic coating can be used on all surfaces such as paint, bumpers, trim, wheels, glass and brake calipers. As this is a permanent layer of protection the vehicle must be fully corrected before any coating is applied.
Wax adds many benefits to your vehicles paint work . Like a coating, wax will provide a extra layer of protection against daily elements. Wax will reduce the webbing appearance and micro marring on your vehicle. Wax temporarily fill any scratches, it does not remove the scratches. The main problem with wax is that it is temporary and will only last anywhere from 2 to 4 months. You will need to add another protective layer of wax every few months. This requires a more frequent detail regiment when maintaining your vehicle. Most waxes are made from carnuba wax, beeswax, combined with natural oils to give a car a nice deep glossy warm look. Recmmended for classics to provide protection and enhance single stage paint.
Sealants are made of polymers nano technology which are composed of tens of thousands of synthetic particles that are linked together to provide durable protection to the vehicle. These synthetic sealants do not break down as easy as wax providing longer protection. Once applied to your paint it will leave a layer of protection that will last anywhere from 6 months to a year. People with a trained eye know that a sealant does not provide that deep warm glossy look like a wax would. Sealants can be used as a base layer for a layer of wax, it will not be beneficial if used the other way around. Combining the two will provide durable protection with a deep glossy look. Each of our details is protected with a layer of sealant for lasting protection.
Why Do We Use Opti-Coat ?
The argument is not about bond energy but rather how inert the bonds are (e.g. Sodium Chloride has a bond energy that is over three times Si-O bond, however, it readily breaks down and dissolves in water). Si-O bond is readily hydrolized in the presence of acids or alkali. Therefore, most cleaners whether they are alkaline or acidic as well as environmental contaminants that contain acids such as bird droppings, bug splatter, acid rain, etc. will break down silica based coatings. That is also why most silica based coatings require use of boosters or reapplication.
The Si-C bond however is not affected by acids or bases since there is no catalytic mechanism to break it down. Therefore, silicon carbide chemistry is not affected by the environmental contaminants. Furthermore, Si-O bonds are prone to degradation by the enzymes in bird dropping and bug splatter whereas Si-C is not.
The proof is seen everyday since with Opti-Coated cars (Si-C based chemistry), the protection is permanent and the bond does not hydrolize or break down with cleaners or environmental contaminants and the paint is not damaged over time. On the other hand, Silica based coatings will break down over time and have a much shorter life expectancy and either acidic or alkaline chemicals can penetrate and damage the paint underneath.
In other words, Ceramic polymer coatings, such as Opti-Coat, are not prone to attack from acids and contaminants. Glass-based coatings are and will degrade over time due to their chemical make-up.

Most frequent questions and answers
We have been detailing for over a decade now and always get asked this question the question of what is the best coating? We have used Opti coat for many reason. First the application process is one and done it does not need a re application after every year. opti coat bonds with your clear coat and does not sit on top as many other coatings do. Second is opticoat has been around since 2001 and was created by dr Ghodoussi who had been working for 12 years in the field of automotive paint formulations as a organic chemist. Ceramic pro came to be in 2010 from a company nanoshine. Opticoat offer a 3 year 5 year and 7 year warranty but your car will be coated its entire life. Ceramic pro offers 2 year 5 year and lifetime warranty. For a company whos only been in the industry for 9 years how do they know it can last a lifetime. you will also need to re apply it every year or you void the warranty. to us it sounds like a very expensive subscription to protect your vehicle. Also Opti coat offers a verity of other chemicals that are made for proper maintance on your vehicle from interior to exterior. And Opti coat is the originator of optimum no rinse witch have revolutionized the way that we wash our vehicles.
no because it bonds with your vehicle paint and does not sit on top layering an application will do apsoultly nothing. we can add opti coat pro plus witch bonds with the opti coat they do not sit on top of eachother.
not only is opticoa one of the orginators of ceramic coatings but they are located int the good old USA in Memphis Tennessee.
Here is a great picture of how thick your vehicle paint surface is and what types of defects may occur during its life. Where as wax as sealants fill in these defects. A ceramic coatings paint must be fully corrected first because once again it is a permanent bond to your vehicles paint. Meaning any defects will be captured and remain underneath the coating if not properly corrected and applied.
